On Sunday, the maximum temperature soared to 43.1 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature was recorded as 28.8 degrees Celsius, both three degrees above normal.

The day’s relative humidity ranged between 25% and 68%. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 43 and 28 degrees Celsius respectively on Monday.
“The human body has been designed to feel comfortable at temperature levels ranging between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius temperature and 30%-50% relative humidity (RH). One starts feeling uncomfortable once the temperature move beyond 30 degrees Celsius. A rising relative humidity only adds to the discomfort,” said director of Lucknow University’s weather monitoring cell Prof Dhruvsen Singh.

State met officials said that the temperature levels are high because of a clear sky and low wind velocity. They attributed the high relative humidity to the moisture-laden easterly winds. “There will be no change in weather conditions till Monday. However, the excessive heat and accumulation of moisture may create conditions favourable for a dust storm/thunderstorm on Tuesday and Wednesday, which might lead to a drop in temperatures by a couple of degrees,” they added.
State Met director JP Gupta said that the monsoon has entered India but the pace of advancement is slow so far. If it moves with the current speed, it will take at least 15-18 days to reach UP and Lucknow. The normal dates of monsoon arrival in the state and the city are June 15 and 18 respectively, but this year the currents are expected to reach by June 23-25. Pre-monsoon showers may hit the city by June 21-22.
