Lucknow University's (LU)
zoology and physics departments bagged the first rank in the varsity's annual quality assessment. Conducted by
LU's Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), the survey assessed the departments' performance in the 2017-18 session.
The two departments scored 580 marks each in the 1000-mark assessment, followed by botany (545), geology (465), business administration (340), psychology (330) and ancient Indian history (295).
Zoology had bagged the first spot last year as well, but physics improved its performance this year. The department stood second in last year's assessment.
The two top-ranking departments will get a cash reward of Rs 3 lakh each, while the department which scored the second spot will get Rs 2 lakh. The ones occupying the third, fourth and fifth spot will get Rs 1 lakh each.
"The departments were assessed on criterion recommended by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) which included student satisfaction, best practices, infrastructure and extra curriculum activities," said IQAC incharge Rajiv Manohar.
