Ludhiana: Cabinet minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu reviewed works being carried out under Smart City Mission at MC’s Zone D office on Friday, and asked officials to increase the pace of works. The minister claimed work on the construction of a rail over bridge (ROB) and two rail under bridges (RUBs) on Pakhowal Road would start from Monday. This joint project is worth around Rs120 crore, and would provide residents the much-needed respite from traffic congestion.
Ashu said the project would prove beneficial to area residents who currently suffer due to traffic congestion on Pakhowal Road.
He said the project was one of the main promises he made to residents of Ludhiana (West) constituency, and he would personally supervise it.
He also informed that tenders for the Sidhwan Canal Water Front project would be opened on June 28, and the work was expected to start shortly. He informed that 1.15km was identified for landscape development of the canal front in the first phase of the Smart City project from Pakhowal Road to Ferozepur Road behind MC’s Zone D.
Ashu said 15
smart toilets would be constructed in the city, out of which work on 14 was already in progress, while 25 other toilets would also be constructed and a Rs40-crore sports park would be developed in Jaunpur.
He also visited the newly constructed Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) in Zone D, which would get direct feeds of all CCTV cameras installed in the city under the Safe City project. He informed that by Diwali, the entire city would have LED streetlights, which would save a lot of money that Ludhiana MC had spent on power bills.
