15 trains arrive late due to festival rush
Ludhiana: Ahead of Holi, heavy rush in long-route trains has resulted in the late arrival of most trains at the city railway station. On Tuesday, more than 15 trains arrived late by several hours, which created problems for passengers waiting on different platforms.
Providing information regarding special trains, station superintendent Ashok Salaria said: “Due to Holi festival rush, many special trains are running, which has crowded the rail route.
Due to this, many trains arrived late by several hours.”
The worst affected trains were Shaheed Express from Amritsar to Jaynagar, which arrived eight hours late at 4am instead of 8pm the previous evening, Amritsar-Howrah Express arrived seven hours late at 12.45pm instead of 5.40am, and Pooja Express from Ajmer to Jammu arrived six hours late at 9.30am instead of 3.20am.”
Meanwhile, passengers claimed railways should run a few more festival specials to overcome the issue of heavy rush in long-route trains, as the situation in the city station has worsened due to heavy rush. One woman passenger, Gurpreet Kaur, waiting for Howrah Express, said: “Railway authorities should increase the strength of waiting rooms at the city railway station, so in case of train delay, passengers can spend their time without facing any inconvenience.”
