16,523 volunteers join fight against drugs
Ludhiana: As many as 16,523 volunteers have got themselves registered as drug abuse prevention officers (DAPO).
Deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Ashwani Kapoor said on Sunday, “The campaign for registration of DAPO volunteers is witnessing a huge success, with 16,523 people opting for it.”
The volunteers were also enrolled during various public meetings and seminars.
“Effort are being made to establish direct contact with public, especially youth. Seminars are being organised in villages, schools, colleges, taxi stands and sports clubs, among others. The Ludhiana police commissionerate has also issued mobile numbers — 7837018500 and 9815800251 — on which anyone can share information about drug trade. The informer’s identity will be kept a secret,” he added.
The police are also lending a helping hand to the youth battling drugs. “We have admitted a number of drug addicts to civil hospital and are taking care of their treatment. More people should come forward and join this war against drugs to rid the district of the menace.”
