Birthday celebration turns tragic in Ludhiana; one dead in fight between friends
LUDHIANA: A Birthday celebration turned tragic when a 23-year-old man died in a fight with his friend in inebriated condition at a restaurant in Mundiya area on Wednesday late night. A group of six friends had gone there to celebrate first birthday of son of one of their friends.
The deceased has been identified as Mithun Kumar, 23 of Ram Nagar. The Mundiya police on Thursday arrested the accused Sundar Kumar, 20 of Ram Nagar and a case under section of 304 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of IPC was registered against him.

On Wednesday Surinder Kumar of Ram Nagar organised a birthday party of his son Nitin who turned one, at his house. After celebrations at home. Surinder along with his friends Mithun, Sundar, Manoj, Pappu and Parshotam- all residents of Ram Nagar went to a restaurant in GK Estate of Mundiya area.
Assistant sub inspector Harbhajan Singh, in-charge at Police post Mundiya, said that all friends were in inebriated condition, Mithun and Sundar indulged in a verbal argument. They started abusing each other. Following this, Sundar started beating Mithun.
The ASI added that meanwhile the restaurant owner Balbir Singh intervened and asked both Mithun and Sundar to go out. After coming out of the restaurant Sundar gave Mithun a push after which he fell down and his head hit hard on floor. Sundar sustained head injury. Mithun get scared and escaped from there.
The restaurant workers raised alarm after which Mithun was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
ASI Harbhajan said that the police have arrested accused Sundar on Thursday morning.
