Ludhiana: Cracking a whip on violators, traffic police issued as 441 challans on Holi collected Rs 49,800. A total of 275 court challans and 166 cash challans were issued. While most were penalised for triple riding, driving without helmet and in an inebriated condition followed next.
Nearly, 220 traffic cops were deployed on roads on Thursday. Several check-posts were established at different areas of the city.
According to the data given traffic police, 128 challans were issued for triple riding, followed by 112 for driving without helmet and 78 for drunk driving. Besides the police have also impounded 43 vehicles under different violations.
The additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP- Traffic) Tarun Rattan said, “Police established check-posts at different areas and started challaning violators from 8am till 8pm.”
22 were challaned for not wearing seat belts, 18 for wrong parking, 15 for jumping red light, seven for using mobile phones while driving, 16 for speeding and three for using black film on cars. Meanwhile, 26 vehicles were also towed away for wrong parking.
In 2018, a total of 927 challans were issued on Holi to violators. Maximum challans were issued to 183 violators for not wearing helmets, and 18 were challaned for driving in inebriated condition.
However in 2017, the number was higher as a total of 1,388 challans were issued on Holi, including 950 challans for not wearing helmet, followed by 103 challans for not wearing seat belt, 73 for triple riding, 45 for drunk driving, and 52 for jumping red light.
