LUDHIANA: Division No.2 police have booked the son of a councillor and his unidentified accomplices under charges of attempt to murder. It is alleged that the councillor’s son, with his accomplices, had barged into a house in Amarpur on Thursday afternoon, thrashed a youth with rods when he was alone at home, and fled.
The injured has been identified as Jagdeep Singh Rinkle (22) of Amarpura.
It is alleged that the rivalry between Rinkle and a group of miscreants continued since the assembly elections of 2017, as Rinkle was supporting and actively promoting the party opposed to the accused, Jatinderpal Singh Sunny.
An FIR has been lodged by the police against Sunny and his unidentified accomplices under sections 307 (attempt to murder), and 452 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault, or wrongful restraint). Sunny is the son of Congress leader and councillor Gurdeep Singh Neetu.
Rinkle’s brother Mani Khehra said on Thursday that while Rinkle was at home, he and their mother had gone to buy some household stuff within the locality. Meanwhile, he received a call from a neighbour that seven to eight people had barged into the house and thrashed Rinkle.
Mani rushed to his house, but by then the accused had escaped from there, and Rinkle was lying in a pool of blood. Following this, Mani rushed Rinkle to a private hospital on Brown Road. Further, he said: “During the assembly elections, my brother supported the BJP candidate, while the councillor represents the Congress party. My brother was quite active, and since then, the councillor and his son nurtured a rivalry against Rinkle. They also thrashed him, after which we lodged a police complaint, but the police did not listen to us.”

“In March this year again, Sunny thrashed Rinkle, but falsely got an FIR lodged against him. Today, when Rinkle was alone at home, the accused brutally thrashed him. He is critical and on ventilator,” added Mani. The SHO at police station Division No.2, inspector Gurwinder Singh, said the youth was critical and unable to give a statement. However, on his brother’s complaint, the police have booked the councillor’s son Sunny and his accomplices.
Further, the inspector added that the accused were captured in a Volkswagen car. The police are tracing that car. Meanwhile, the councillor could not be contacted for a statement.
