Sharanpal Singh, 30, who was also a property dealer, sustained a bullet injury on his head.
A nearby resident on hearing a gunshot rushed out and raised an alarm following which the injured was taken to a private hospital.
According to police, a .32 bore weapon was used in the crime.
The incident occurred at 7.37am when Sharanpal was walking in his street. A man who had his face covered with a handkerchief fired at him and escaped. The entire incident was captured in CCTV cameras installed in the area. Moreover, the accused’s face was captured when fleeing after committing the crime.
Inspector Pavittar Singh, SHO, Daba police station, said, “The accused has been identified as Pawan Kumar, 32. He was earlier living in the same locality near Sharanpal’s house. He has studied with Sharanpal’s brother Kirpal Singh in school and college. Later, Pawan went abroad and returned to India around two years ago.”

“On his return, he started business of money exchange. About 10 months ago, Sharanpal had urinated near Pawan’s shop which had resulted in an argument and a scuffle.
Pawan and his accomplices had even thrashed Sharanpal. The matter had reached the police, however both parties had reached a compromise. Thereafter, Pawan left the house after being disowned by his parents. But, he nurtured grudge against Sharanpal which led to firing on Thursday.”
Additional deputy commissioner of police (crime) Ratan Singh Brar said, “A CCTV camera has captured the accused roaming in the street with his face covered. As soon as Sharanpal entered the lane of his house, the man took out the weapon from his pocket and fired at him. The bullet hit Sharanpal on his head from the rear.”
The Daba police have registered a case against the accused under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC and Arms Act.
