Employees union calls off strike after meeting minister
Ludhiana: In a sigh of relief for residents, work in all departments under the deputy commissioner’s office resumed from Friday as the DC Office Employees Union — which was on a pen-down strike since Monday — returned to work. The strike was called off on Thursday evening after office-bearers of the union’s state unit met revenue minister Gurpreet Singh Kangar with their demands, and the minister assured them of fulfilling them soon.
According to Parkash Singh, president of Ludhiana unit of DC Office Employees Union: “All our members have resumed work from today (Friday), as the talks between president of the Punjab State DC offices Employees Union Gurnam Singh Virk and revenue minister Punjab have been successful.
The minister has assured us that our problems will be solved at the earliest and the pending promotions will be done within a week’s time.”
Singh also informed: “The revenue minister has also informed our representatives that the ‘action taken report’ on every genuine demand officially submitted by us can be sought by us on a fortnightly basis, which means there will be speedy resolution of all our demands.”
Meanwhile, Friday being the first day of work after four days, a rush of residents was witnessed at the Mini Secretariat for getting their works done. According to Ajitpal Singh, a resident of Threeke village: “For the past three days, I have been coming to the DC’s office to get the registration of my coaching institute done, but due to the strike of employees, I was unable to even get a form. Thankfully, the strike is now over, but I think both employees and the government should ensure that the public does not suffer due to their infighting.”
