‘Extend last date to file I-T, GST returns’

‘Extend last date to file I-T, GST returns’
Ludhiana: Tax professionals in the city have urged Union finance minister Nirmla Sitharaman to extend the last date of filing of income tax return (ITR) and GST return.
Bal Krishan Gupta, president of Punjab Tax Bar Association (PTBA), said, “We have sent a representation to Union finance minister in this regard. We have demanded extension in filing of all kinds of ITR and GSTR forms by at least two months and five month, respectively.”
“The GST forms should be simplified and made trader-friendly.
The current system is very complex. The GSTR-9 (annual return) form contains six parts with 19 tables, which make the task difficult for traders,” Gupta added.
B R Kaushal, secretary general, PTBA, said, “The entire business community in the country is facing problems with reconciling figures of various GST returns that they have already filed. As incessant rains wreaked havoc in 11 states, including Punjab, more than 68% of the country is going through a hard phase. We therefore request the finance minister to defer the deadline to file the returns.”
