Green Land School under probe for bldg violations
Ludhiana: Green Land School on Jalandhar Bypass has come under investigation for violation of building norms and regulations. An enquiry was conducted in the schoool on Saturday by Jaswinder Singh, the principal of Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Nurpur Bet, on the directions of the state education department, following orders issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.
Bichattar Singh from Dhaincha village in Doraha had filed a complaint in the end of May, alleging illegal construction by the school authorities, and addressed it to about half a dozen government offices, including the PMO, state chief secretary, state education department, chairperson of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), deputy commissioner, municipal corporation, and others.
The Prime Minister’s Office then asked the education department to take necessary action, and marked it to the Punjab chief secretary.
In his complaint, the resident alleged that the school was constructed in violation of building bylaws, and the school authorities had built many parts of the building without obtaining any permission from the district authorities. The complaint read: “The school authorities have also extended the building behind their campus by illegally occupying extra space, which was meant for housing.” The complainant mentioned that the school authorities were not following fire safety measures in the school, and alleged that the authorities were endangering the lives of students, teachers, and other staff.
Jaswinder Singh said: “The authorities told me to collect relevant documents. The school had given me an NOC of fire safety and building safety, of which I will file a report and submit it to DEO Secondary Swaranjit Kaur on Tuesday.”
Meanwhile, school director Rajesh Rudra said: “The allegations have been made to earn money. The school has been functioning for the past 30 years. We have not done any violations, as we are following norms, and we have proof of it. The prime minister has nothing to do in this, as everyone can go and complain to him.”
Greenland School principal Baldev Pandeer said: “If you have talked to my senior, then I will not give any comment. I am out of town, so I don’t have any idea what it is about.”
