Jallianwalla tragedy to be retold from today
Ludhiana : An exhibition with a compilation of images, history, audio and videos capturing the factual representation of the Jallianwala Bagh tragedy will begin from Saturday at the city’s Guru Nanak Bhawan. The exhibition will be on till September 3.
Speaking about the exhibition, Pari Baishya, of the Partition Museum, Amritsar & The Arts and Cultural Heritage Trust, New Delhi said, “This exhibition has been possible because of the collaboration between the state government and Partition Museum, Amritsar.” He said those who visit this exhibition, will get a knowledge about the untold stories of some of the victims of those who were present on that fateful day and testimonies of people who were subjected to rigorous imprisonment and those who were tortured and humiliated.
Apart from focusing on the tragedies of the massacre, the exhibition also proposes to throw light upon the political situation in Punjab in the early 1900s, the impact of the forced recruitment during the war years, epidemic, rising prices, and various political movements.
He said that the narration would also help the visitors to understand the Hindu-Muslim unity of Gandhi's Satyagraha against the Rowlett Act. It will also inform the visitors about the period of martial law in Punjab, and the impact that it had during India’s freedom struggle. Baishya also said that at the end of having visited the venue, the visitors will definitely leave the premise with a thought on whether this heinous act was pre-planned or a conspiracy.
The exhibition will be inaugurated by deputy commissioner Ludhiana, Pradeep Kumar Agrawal, and among others who would remain present during the inauguration will include additional deputy commissioner, Iqbal Singh Sandhu and assistant commissioner, Poonam Preet Kaur.
After Ludhiana, the exhibition will move to other cities in the state including Bathinda, Patiala and SAS Nagar (Mohali) over the next few months.
