LUDHIANA: BJP councillor Sonia Sharma from ward 31 had to supply water on tanker at her level to the residents of Gurmeet Nagar on Saturday when MC driver employed for driving the tractor and tanker lied that tractor had developed technical snag and was not functional.
When the councillor checked the tractor it was perfectly fine. Then her husband drove the tractor so that they could supply water to the poor people.
The motor of tube well in the locality had burnt due to which there was water crisis in the locality.
While giving the information, councillor Sonia Sharma said that the people were facing problems as there was no water supply since morning and she asked the driver to get tanker in locality. She said the driver refused to come saying that the tractor which pulls the tanker is not functional. Sharma said they went to the place where tractor and found it to be working fine. She said they have complained against the driver with concerned officials so that action should be taken against him.
Meanwhile Pankaj Sharma, Sonia Sharma's husband said, "I can drive tractor so I took it in the area but not all know how to drive. It is bad on the part of such employees who shirk from work." He said in one week the motor of tube well burnt twice and even now they were not sure when it will be repaired. He said during the day there is scarcity of water in the area but in the night time some of the houses get supply from tube wells in other areas. He said he will meet the zonal commissioner to complain against the driver.
The zonal commissioner Neeraj Jain said that he came to know about the incident and he has asked the councillor to come to his office on Monday. He said that stern action will be taken against the erring employee.
Notably even last year in July there was water crisis in localities like Mann Colony, Gill colony and Giaspura flats in ward number 31 for almost two months. Even then duo had arranged private water tanker for the colonies.
