LUDHIANA: In a case of one-sided love affair, a man attacked a newly engaged 24-year-old woman of
New Puneet Nagar here in
Tibba with acid on November 15. The police on Tuesday arrested the accused Raghuvir Singh Lucky (26). The accused confessed that days before engagement, he had proposed the woman, however, she turned down his proposal. Thereafter he decided to damage her face and ruin her engagement.
The day she got engaged, Lucky stole the acid from the toilet of a glass factory and hid it for a few days before finally attacking her.
The accused was close to the victim's family.
Assistant commissioner of police (ACP-East) Pawanjit Chaudhary said that the accused used to call the woman 'didi', however, he wanted to marry her secretly. He confessed that he only wanted her fiancee and in-laws to end the relation after damaging the victim's face and thereafter he wanted to marry her.
A day after attack, the accused also called the woman's father after the incident and dared him to get her married to any other man.
The official said at the time of incident, the accused was wearing a cap and covered his face with piece of black cloth. He called on the victim from the outer window of the house. As she opened the door, the accused threw acid on her face and ran away.
Further inspector Mohammad Jamil, SHO at police station Tibba said, "The accused also wanted to change his appearance after the incident, but as he was turbaned, all barbers refused to cut his hair."
