Ludhiana: Man rapes 5-year-old girl, gags her to death

LUDHIANA: Police have detained a 21-year-old man for allegedly raping and murdering a five-year-old girl in Focal Point area on Wednesday.
The accused lives on rented accommodation in the building where the girl along with her family used to stay.
During the preliminary inquiry, the police have came to know that the girl used to play in the quarter and would often go upstairs while playing.On Wednesday evening around 7pm, the girl went upstairs where the accused, who is a factory worker, was in his one room accommodation. He dragged the girl into his room and raped her.
"The girl's family and the accused live in same labourers' quarter and were known to each other. When the accused found the girl alone upstairs, he raped her. He put his hand on girl's mouth to ensure nobody could hear her screams due to which the girl died," ACP Harjinder Singh said.
According to cops, the accused panicked after girl's death and tried to escape. However, his neighbours nabbed him. Thereafter they found the body of the minor girl inside his room.
On being informed, the Focal Point police reached on spot. The police are recording statement of girls' father.
