LUDHIANA: While raising their demand for not shifting the city bus stand to Tansport Nagar, the transporters from the area met the Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) officials on Thursday. The LIT had issued a public notice to the transporters in the area for producing the proofs of their ownership in a particular land that was kept reserved by LIT and it has ownership of that land. The transporters have been given 15 days to prove their ownership of that land.

As per LIT officials at a distance of 100 meters from the national highway 28.5 acres land was left vacant and its ownership belongs to LIT. Around 10 acres of land are for parking purpose. There is a proposal to shift the bus stand to this 38.5 acres of land in Transport Nagar. But structures have come up over this land as well gradually. Recently, the LIT had issued a public notice to the transporters for putting their side along with documentary proofs.
On Thursday, a group of transporters met the LIT officials and requested them for not shifting the bus stand at this location. They said if authorities want to shift the bus stand to Transport Nagar they should develop another Transport Nagar at some other location. Also they claimed it will reduce parking space in the area. The transporters said the condition of not allowing construction has been reduced from 95 meters to 5 meters in case of scheduled roads and national highways. They submitted 60 objections with the trust officials.
The estate officer of LIT Harpreet Sandhu however said they have taken their documents and proofs which will be scanned now. He said transporters were asking more time for more documents so they have given 15 days more to them. Sandhu said the decision to shift the bus stand to Transport Nagar is to be taken at the deputy Commissioner level and they will report the matter to the DC office.
