PATIALA: The police here have booked some persons under Sections of IT Act and Sections of the
Indian Penal Code for allegedly
morphing and uploading obscene images of girls and then blackmailing them.
The police registered the case under Sections 66D, 67, 67- A of the Information and Technology Act 2008 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code on complaint of two separate residents who both hail from Nabha.
The police said that the accused have been identified as Sunil Kumar of Patiala. The police added that the complainant alleged that Sunil used to download photos of their daughters and her friends on
Instagram by using fake IDs and then morph the pictures to further upload them on various social media sites.
The accused then used to blackmail the complainants and ask for money. One of the complainant said that he was informed by his own daughter about her morphed photographs on the Instagram following which the police was informed and the complaint was lodged.
The police said that the complainant filed the complaint in August this year but as per rules the investigation was marked to the Crime Branch IT in Chandigarh.
A FIR was registered on Friday on recommendation of IT cell.
The case was registered at Kotwali Police station Nabha. However, further investigation in this matter is ongoing.
