Politics on, Akali leaders fill stagnant water in pots, throw it outside MLA’s office
Ludhiana: With politics over spillage of filthy water from overflowing Buddha Nullah into residential areas not coming to an end, the youth Akali Dal leaders filled pots, buckets and containers with stagnant water in Shivpuri on Friday.
They threw the water outside the office of Rakesh Pandey, MLA from the north constituency.
The youth Akali Dal leaders blamed the Congress of failing to handle the situation.
However, the MLA termed the move by the youth Aakli Dal leaders as publicity stunt.
The leaders claimed that it had been five days and there was no end to water stagnation in the area. They said residents and shopkeepers had been facing a lot of trouble.
They later moved towards the office of Rakesh Pandey, MLA, where they broke the pots and spilled water outside his office. They also staged a protest against the MLA and the Congress government.
Gurdeep Gosha, district president of the youth Akali Dal, said: “People are suffering because the civic officials and the government did not pay attention towards cleaning the Buddha Nullah or finding a permanent solution to the problem.”

He said people were suffering and the authorities were unable to provide them relief. Therefore, they protested in the area.
He said they requested the MLA to meet them, but he did not as he had no answers to the problems faced by the public.
Meanwhile, the MLA claimed that filling buckets or pots with filthy water would not solve the issue.
He said it was a natural calamity and they were helpless in draining out the excess water, but the situation was improving slowly.
He said the opposition parties were trying to fulfill their selfish means by taking such steps.
A shopkeeper at S K Puri market said: “It has been five days and the roads are still full of water. My shop is also in a mess due to water.”
He said after they protested on Thursday, the civic officials acted swiftly and started draining out the excess water with the help of pumps.
He said there was a partial relief on Friday and people had started opening their shops.
Minkoo Dhingan, another resident, said from the past five days it was difficult to move out of the house, there was less water on the roads Friday.
