LUDHIANA: In an effort to make jails plastic-free zones, Punjab government has banned plastic bags in all jails of the state. Now, inmates will prepare paper carrybags, which will not only help eliminate plastic bags from the complexes, but also enhance the craft skills of the prisoners.
Ludhiana jail superintendent Shamsher Singh Boparai said the decision was taken by Punjab chief minister Captain
Amarinder Singh to save the environment from harmful impacts of plastic bags.
He said in the first phase, the paper carrybags would be used in jails, and later, sold in markets.
