Punjab: Woman arrested for murdering husband

LUDHIANA: Police have arrested a woman for allegedly murdering her husband by repeatedly hitting him with an iron rod following a dispute early on Monday.
The family members of the man were sleeping in the varandah when the murder took place.
After killing her husband, the accused woman fled the spot. However, some locals saw her outside in early hours and took her back home after which the family came to know about the murder.
The deceased has been identified as Surinder Kumar, 35, a migrant labouer of Lal bagh Colony, who hails from Uttar Pradesh.

On the statement of his father, Shiv Lal, the Sarabha Nagar police have registered a case under section of 302 (murder) of IPC against Nanakki (30). the accused. The husband wife duo are labourers and used to work on construction sites.
The couple was married for the past 13 years and has three children.
Police said that Surinder was an alcoholic who often used to beat his wife.

Shiv Lal, the father of the deceased, said, "We have a one room house therefore I along with my wife and grandchildren sleep in open and Surinder and his wife sleep in bedroom. Around 2.30am, three people came to our house accompanied by Nanakki. They found Nanakki going alone so they dropped her home.
"I thought Surinder must have fought with her and she would have left the house. However Nanakki started crying and seeking apology. I could not understand so I went inside the room to question Surinder. He was laying down on floor bedding in the pool of blood. He had injuries on his head and face. He was dead" he added.
The family informed the police in the morning after which the body was sent to civil hospital for post-mortem while the woman was arrested.
The SHO at police station Sarabha Nagar, Inspector Brij Mohan said, "The woman has confessed he crime. She stated that Surinder would often beat her in inebriated condition. On Sunday night also she started beating her without any reason, while the family was sleeping outside. In retaliation she attacked him with an iron road repetitively, till he died."
