STF arrests police constable, two aides with heroin in Ludhiana

LUDHIANA: The special task force (STF) Ludhiana range arrested a policeman and his two accomplices with 785 gm of heroin on Sunday afternoon. The recovered heroin is estimated to be worth Rs 4.40 crores in the international market. The accused policeman is deputed as 'Munshi' at police station Sadar of Khanna.
The arrested accused have been identified has head constable Gagandeep Singh(29) of Mohalla Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar, Lalheri Road of Khanna, his accomplices Amandeep Singh (22) is a residence of Kidwayi Nagar and Vikas Kumar (28) from Rishi Nagar.

Assistant Inspector General, STF Ludhiana and Ferozepur Range, Snehdeep Sharma, said that Gagandeep Singh used to purchase heroin from Delhi and hand it over to Amandeep Singh and Vikas Kumar for selling it further.
The AIG added that first, STF arrested Amandeep Singh and Vikas Kumar from Sector 39 at Chandigarh Road following a tip-off when they were travelling in Hyundai i-20 car on Saturday evening. The STF recovered 400 gm of heroin from the car and lodged an FIR under sections 21, 29, 61, 85 of NDPS act at STF Mohali. During further interrogation the accused revealed that they received heroin from the head constable.
AIG added that Amandeep and Vikas have confessed that they used to deliver heroin on the information of Gagandeep. Following the information provided by the accused, the STF arrested the 'Munshi' near police station Sadar of Khanna and recovered 385 gm of heroin from his possession.
AIG Sharam told, "In 2017-2018, Amandeep was arrested by Khanna police and that time Gagandeep was reader with a DSP-ranked officer. Gagandeep helped Amandeep in getting bail and since then they remained in touch. Gagandeep wanted to get rich and have a good lifestyle. He also bought a car on loan and to pay installments of loan he wanted to have more money. Therefore, he asked Amandeep to do drug peddling for him."
Inspector Harbans Singh, incharge at STF Ludhiana, said that Gagandeep Singh had joined police as constable eight years ago. Later, he was promoted to head constable. He was working as 'Munshi' at police station Khanna of Sadar for past 8 months. The trio was working together from past six months.
