‘Traced’ in Delhi, Bittu meets Union minister, discusses Buddha Nullah

‘Traced’ in Delhi, Bittu meets Union minister, discusses Buddha Nullah
Ludhiana: Drawing flak over social media for not showing up in his constituency after floods in the Sutlej and overflowing of Budha Nullah, Ludhiana MP Ravneet Singh Bittu on Friday claimed that he was in New Delhi and had a meeting with Union Jal Shakti minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.
Bittu also issued a press release and posted his picture with Shekhawat on his Facebook accout.

Bittu claimed that he met Shekhawat and sought solutions to the problems faced by the people due to Buddha Nullah.
He also discussed about the current situation of the Dhussi Bandh of the Sutlej.
Bittu’s spokesperson said: “With an aim to find a permanent solution to the problem related to around 14-km stretch of the Buddha Nullah, the MP held a meeting with the Union minister of Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat at his office in New Delhi on Friday. Bittu sought cooperation of the government for the project. After the meeting, Bittu informed that the cleaning of the Buddha Nullah is one of his dream projects and he has also promised about the same with the people of the city.”

He said the Buddha Nullah (earlier known as Buddha Dariya) was an old tributary of the Satluj and once had more than 50 species of fish, but started losing its glory with the passage of time.
The statement said: “Bittu informed that this was his second meeting with the Union minister in the last three months. He stated that Shekhawat was apprised of the recent development related to overflowing of the Buddha Nullah, which created trouble for the residents. He also apprised the Union minister of the current situation of the Dhussi Bandh of the Sutlej. He requested Shekhawat to ensure that the project is handled on a priority basis as a proper plan needs to be worked out for the same.”
The statement claimed that Shekhawat had assured full cooperation and offered maximum funds for the project.
“The Union minister will visit the Buddha Nullah in September along with a team of experts from Tata Sons, who have shown interest in the Rs 900-crore project related to cleaning of the nullah,” the statement claimed.
It is, however, not clear as to why Bittu has been away from his constituency and camping in New Delhi. According to sources close to Bittu, he will visit Ludhiana on Saturday and is likely to visit Bholewal and Garhi Fazal where breaches have occurred. Despite repeated attempts, Bittu did not respond to phone calls.
On Friday, Bittu had drawn sarcastic remarks from a few local Congress leaders and residents after he posted a ‘get well soon’ message to mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu, who has been recouperating in a hospital following heart ailment.
Bitttu meanwhile continued to draw criticism from rival parties for remaining away.
BJP State unit vice president Jeewan Gupta said, "Ludhiana MP has time to get photographs clicked and make false claims but he does not have time to come to Ludhiana and ask about well being of the people who elected him and are in distress now. This is the time when they need him the most but Bittu instead of helping has ditched them and is camping in Delhi. He has been fully exposed and people have realised that he is nothing but an opportunist who fooled locals by bowing before them with folded hands for getting elected. When he was needed the most, he has run away from Ludhiana"
Prabhjot Dhaliwal, district president of Youth wing of Shiromani Akali Dal said, "It has been almost a week since locals have been battling natural calamities and the MP has remained missing from the city. What is even worse that when people took to social media to criticise him, he got a photo op done at Delhi and is showing that he is camping in Delhi only to get their problems solved. I don’t think now he will come to Ludhiana anytime soon because he knows he will have to face anger of residents who expected him to be with them in their troubles."
