Vehicle-lifters’ gang busted, two arrested
Ludhiana: The police on Wednesday claimed to have busted a three-member inter-state gang of vehicle lifters with the arrest of two.
Rohit Singh, 21, of Jalandhar and his minor accomplice, a resident of Gurdaspur, were arrested near railway station on a tip-off. Following their interrogation, their third aide, Gopi, was brought here from Kapurthala jail on production warrant.

Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP-1) Gurpreet Singh Sikand said, “With their arrest, police have solved six cases reported in Ludhiana and seven of Jalandhar, including those of theft, dacoity, drugs and Arms Act. Besides these, they have confessed to have committed 24 more thefts in the state. The three formed gang in 2015 after they met in Kapurthala jail.”
The two arrested accused were school drop-outs, who took to the crime world to make quick buck.
“The gang would steal any vehicle — scooter, motorcycle, car, truck or a JCB machine — they could easily unlock. They would sell the stolen vehicles to scrap dealers in Gurdaspur. An SUV, a tractor and a JCB machine have been recovered from them,” the ADCP added.
