Waterlogged Feroze Gandhi mkt area irks commuters
Ludhiana: One brief spell of rainfall on Thursday blocked the drainage system of Feroze Gandhi market which is located in the heart of the city. The market area is near district courts.
“Bank employees and those working in corporates nearby have been suffering due to the the blocked drainage system as it has resulted in waterlogged roads. With the onset of monsoon in less than two months, there are chances of spreading of diseases like dengue, malaria and so on if the concerned authorities do not take the necessary steps in a timely manner,” said advocate Chetan Sharma.
Pawan Kumar, a daily commuter and a private employee in the area, said, “The roads remain waterlogged for a long time.
There is no proper system to drain the water from the roads. The government should be conducting checks in different areas to take stock of the situation and work accordingly towards fixing it.”
A person requesting anonymity said, “This is not the first time when such a thing is happening. Whenever there is a bad weather condition, 99.9% of the roads get waterlogged. Such conditions can prove to be fatal for commuters and those living nearby as they develop potholes due to the long-standing water. The authorities on the other hand blame heavy trucks and vehicles for the poor condition of the roads.”
