Yoga sessions held across city
Ludhiana: International Yoga Day was organised at Dholewal Military Station here for the 5th consecutive year by Vajra AD Brigade from June 19 to 21 with full enthusiasm. Six instructors from the Art of Living Foundation, in co-ordination with instructors of the Indian Army, conducted a morning session of yoga for three days, followed by a lecture on benefits of meditation and heart care by the Swami Vivekanand Meditation Pyramid and Foundation, Ludhiana.
Various interactive events like poster-making for children, extempore for ladies, musical chairs, and couple quiz were conducted to celebrate the day.
A total strength of approximately 1,100 service personnel, their families and children of all age groups came out and followed the customised yoga session. The theme for the International Yoga Day 2019 was ‘Care for your heart’. A similar camp was also organised at 103 Infantry Battalion, in which instructor Ashok Dhir taught jawans and officers to practise yoga.
International Yoga day was celebrated in several parts of the city as well. Several organisations and departments organised yoga at Lions Bhawan, and Government College for Boys, Rakh Bagh. The programme at Lions Bhawan was organised by the Ayurvedic and Yunani departments, in which a large number of residents, students, officials, and sportspersons participated.
Presiding over the programme, district ayurvedic and yunani officer Dr Manjeet Singh said: “By doing yoga, a person remains fit physically as well as mentally. Yoga is an age-old part of our culture, which is very useful in today’s time, when life has become very stressful and people have very less time. Therefore, everyone — regardless of his or her age — should adopt yoga.”
Dr Manjeet Singh also asked the audience to participate in Mission Tandrust of state government and make it successful initiative. Others present on the occasion included Dr Pritpal Singh, Dr Pankaj, Dr Jaspreet Singh, and Dr Rekha Bajaj.
Officers and staff of the State Bank of India too organised a yoga session at Rose Garden on Friday, in which the bank’s regional manager Gurpreet Kaur led the session and made participants aware about yoga’s benefits. Others present on the occasion included Rajeev Madaan, Rakhi Aggarwal, and Ankita Mahajan.
