MUMBAI: A girder of Road Over Bridge (RoB) between Gholvad and Umbergaon railway stations on the Mumbai-Surat section of the Western Railway was dislocated due to heavy winds on Wednesday afternoon.
While long distance trains for Gujarat have been cancelled due to the Cyclone Vayu, suburban services had been discontinued to carry out the work of placing the girders at around 2.20 pm.
At least five iron girders reportedly dislocated and were dangling in the air following heavy winds. Luckily the girders did not land on the track below.
A western railway spokesperson said that work on fixing the girder was on.
Meanwhile, thunderstorm accompanied by lightning, gusty wind with speed reaching 30-40 kmph with intense spell of rain is likely to occur at isolated places in Palghar and Thane.
Palghar and neighbouring areas plunged into darkness as electric poles snapping was reported at a few places.
