MUMBAI: The Western Railway has changed the name of Elphinstone Road station, which will be called as Prabhadevi from today.
The name change is almost a year after the nod was given by the central government. The station, with two platforms, caters to slow line services on the WR’s suburban section. It was named in honour of Lord Elphinstone who was the governor of Bombay from 1853 to 180.
Prabhadevi is the name of the area in the vicinity of the station.
It also derives its name from the temple of the deity which is 300 years old.
