MUMBAI: The state Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Thursday stated that it would give school and college canteens another few months to rejig their menus.
Around 25 colleges and schools were felicitated for transforming their menus for healthier options at a workshop organised for educational institutions. "Our mission for the next six months will be to check if schools and colleges are following our directives of May 2019.
We will check the schools in October," said FDA commissioner Pallavi Darade. "If they fail to change the food, we will be forced to take action. It may include penalties and fines. Most institutions are willing to change and have been cooperating," she added.
Principals and headmasters were made aware about food they can provide to students and staff. Wilson College, Arya Vidya Mandir (Bandra) and Rizvi College (Bandra) were among many felicitated.
