MUMBAI: Farmers' leader Ajit Navale claimed on Saturday that the BJP-led state government was trying to suppress the proposed Kisan Long March, to be led by All-India Kisan Sabha (AIKS), to raise their voice against the betrayal of farmers in Maharashtra.
The march, which will begin in Nashik on February 20 and end in Mumbai on February 27, is expected to see over 80,000 farmers participate, claimed AIKS.
Navale, the brain behind the march, told TOI that it is expected to receive a better response than the last Nashik-Mumbai protest march. Navale said,
"The BJP-led state government is trying to suppress the protest by filing cases against me. But the protest will not stop. Instead, it will get a better response than the last march." In March 2018, the AIKS march from Nashik to Mumbai said 40,000 farmers participated.
Navale said that the Ahmednagar police registered a case against him following a large farmers' convention on February 13 for the preparation of the Long March and subsequent submission of a memorandum to the district collector.
