Mild tremor hits Palghar district early Sunday

MUMBAI: An earthquake with a magnitude of 3.1 on the Richter scale felt in Palghar district early on Sunday.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded the low intensity tremor at a depth of 13km having its epicentre in Dahanu taluka at 1.38am.
This is the second tremor experienced in the district in the last eight days. A tremor of magnitude 3.3 was recorded on November 24 at around 3.15pm.
The epicentre was Dhundalwadi village in Dahanu.
On November 11, an earthquake measuring 3.2 was recorded in Dahanu and Talasari talukas of Palghar district at 6.25pm, having a depth of 10km.
District officials said that on Sunday’s tremors were of low intensity and no reports of damages have been received yet.
Neighbouring areas like Silvassa, Valsad, Thane, Navsari and Nashik also experienced weak tremors early on Sunday.
Jawahar, Vikramgad, Dahanu talukas of Palghar district have been prone to tremors. The first earthquake of 2018 in Maharashtra on January 2 had its epicentre in Palghar. The magnitude was 3.2 which hit Khuded village of Jawahar taluka.
