MUMBAI: A day after a 29-year-old woman from the North East was pronounced dead at a suburban hospital, the Vakola police on Tuesday concluded that she was murdered. The woman, a hairdresser, lived in Kalina with her live-in partner who has been detained in the case.
According to the police, the woman hailed from
Mizoram and her partner also hails from the North East.
He works at a spa in the suburbs. The couple used to have frequent fights. She had complained to her friends about his behaviour and her friends had warned him, but in vain. Since August 15, their fights grew worse. On Monday, she was rushed to a nursing home by her partner when she passed out. Doctors pronounced her dead. Her autopsy, conducted on Tuesday, revealed injuries sustained from beatings.
"Initially, her live-in partner denied having hit her. But neighbours confirmed they had heard raised voices," a police officer said.
The mortal remains of the victim will be sent to her hometown in Mizoram. Leaders of the community were present at the Vakola police station on Tuesday. A condolence programme was also organised by the community on Tuesday.
