Mumbai: Paneer made in unhygienic condition in Vasai seized

Paneer, manufactured in unhygienic condition, weighing around 2,000kg was seized from two milk dairies in Vasai.

MUMBAI: Paneer weighing around 2,000kg - manufactured in unhygienic conditions - was seized from two milk dairies in Vasai in the Konkan division of Maharashtra state.
Samples of the cottage cheese have been sent for testing by the Thane Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to ascertain whether it is spurious. The raid comes two weeks after a dairy in Vasai was raided for processing paneer using sulphuric acid.

The raids were carried out by a special team of the Palghar district police along with FDA officials late Wednesday. Around 1,500kg paneer was seized from Sainath Dairy on Kaman Road, Vasai (east). Ajay Dairy in the same vicinity was also raided and 500kg paneer was seized.

Police said that paneer was manufactured in unhygienic condition. The materials used for the paneer were, however, did not come across as spurious.

FDA officials said that as the paneer was manufactured in unhygienic condition, it will be destroyed. Officers said that in case of Ajay Dairy, the workers were not aware about the materials that were going to produce the cottage cheese.

Both the dairies have been shut down till report of the paneer quality arrives.
