MUMBAI: Quick action by Mumbai Police saved the life of a 26-year-old film editor, who had posted a message on Facebook on Friday night about his intention to commit suicide. His family, based out of Pandharpur, read the message and sought Versova police help. In less than four hours, police tracked him down to Andheri railway station, and took him home.
He had fought with his wife, who had moved to her maternal home in Bengaluru.

The editor, who lives with roommates at Mhada in Andheri (W), posted the message in Marathi at 9.30pm that “he was going far away from everyone forever”. He apologised to his parents in the message. His page was bombarded with messages from concerned friends, who also called but his phone was switched off. After his father saw the message, he sought police help.
DCP Paramjeet Singh Dahiya formed teams to look for him and tracked down his cellphone tower location. “We got few locations and roped in roommates and colleagues in the search. He had not told anyone where he was heading. Two friends went to the Metro station. Around 1am, we tracked him down to Andheri station,” said sub-inspector Rauf Shaikh. Police suspect he could have taken a drastic step at the station had they not reached in time. He was counselled and taken home.
“He has been married for six months and had a dispute with his wife. Their differences pushed him to contemplate suicide,” said a police officer, adding that he was now safe. (The man’s name has been kept confidential)
