MUMBAI: A teenaged girl fell off the 17th floor of a Kandivali highrise in Mumbai where she lived with her family on Wednesday evening. Though the police have not found a suicide note, they are probing whether she took the plunge as windows of most flats are covered with nets. A case of accidental death has been recorded by the Samta Nagar police.
The 15-year-old girl lived with her parents and four siblings and had moved to the society only a year ago.
She was a Class X student. Around 4.30pm after returning from school, she had her meal. Residents learnt about her fall from a society WhatsApp chat group. "Not many residents knew the family as they had moved in not too long ago. But they appeared friendly and jovial. It's not clear how she fell through the net that covers windows of flats. We remember an ambulance arriving and taking her to a hospital," said a resident.
The body was sent for an autopsy. The police are yet to record statements of her grieving family. When TOI visited the building on Wednesday, residents were seen visiting the family to offer condolences.
