MUMBAI: A 19-year-old youth, jailed in a drunk driving case two months ago that had left a passenger travelling in an app-based cap dead, was granted bail by a sessions court on Monday.
Sudhanshu Saboo had rammed an SUV into the cab on the Western Express Highway in the early hours of June 17.
Entrepreneur Shailesh Mishra, who was heading home in the cab, was killed.
The Aarey police had booked Saboo on charges of 'culpable homicide not amounting to murder.'
Saboo had first applied for bail last month but his application was rejected. The Aarey police then filed a 160-page chargesheet before the court.
Saboo re-applied for bail. On Monday, a Dindoshi sessions court granted bail to him on the condition that he marks attendance at the Aarey police station twice every week till September and on the fifth of every month thereafter upto December.
The bail application was granted on the grounds of his age, no past criminal history and that his academic session had begun but he was unable to take classes. Saboo is studying Business Management and Entrepreneurship (BME) from a premium business school.
