Wanna catch your Zzzzs? Head over to the disco or pub! We’re not kidding. It will literally have you in a bedroomy set-up as
pyjama parties that you probably went to in your best friend’s home, are now a rocking
nightlife theme. It’s getting party-hoppers to let their hair down in their best PJs, silk shorts and other nightwear. BT dropped in on the bedtime fun…
‘We even did a pyjama theme for a sangeet event’The idea is to wear something as casual and chill out
With
slumber parties hitting the nightlife circuit, it’s been catching up in this city and...
how! Says event and
wedding planner Dhawal Oza, “The
trend is huge in Mumbai. It initially started with simple PJ
parties and crash-overs, but the idea has extended to other events as well. Take for instance, the sangeet party, which we recently conducted. Following songs in round 1, all guests changed into their PJs and went into a pyjama party mode till sunrise. It’s changing the ‘dress up’ to a ‘dress down’ party as it’s called. People find it an antidote to all those heavy lehengas, sherwanis and other heavy outfits. They love the idea of hanging out and relaxing at a party.”
It's relaxing to to go dancing in PJs , find these girls
That’s exactly what people did post sunset at a hot-spot in Andheri. The pyjama party got over 300 people to get into their PJs and have a blast. Among the themed fun was a
pillow fight, a pyjama-style photo booth and small tents with bedding to crawl into, curl up and get comfy. Guests also got silk masks to add to the fun. Says participant Prerna Agarwal, “I actually wore my PJs for the first time outside my home. I was conscious initially, but then once I reached the venue, the whole vibe got to me and I blended in effortlessly. Everyone was in sleepwear, looking cool and relaxed. I loved the cosy tents and didn’t want to leave them. Once I was back home, I didn’t change as I was already dressed for bed.”
Marketing manager Alina Stanley is all for the new theme. She says, “This was such a comfy way to party. Imagine grooving to
Bollywood numbers in your PJs, especially on a Saturday night when there is so much stress on looking and dressing up right at nightclubs. I wish we embraced pyjama-glam more often when we went out; it certainly beats all that dressing up.”
Slumber parties makes fashion-shaming redundant

If anyone told you to step out in your PJs a year ago, you would have thought it to be a crazy idea. Not any more. Mira Road resident and communications specialist Natasha D’souza, who attended a slumber party recently, loved the no-fuss concept around the theme. “I heard about this slumber party in the city through social media and had to go for it. It was such a no-fuss concept,” she said, adding, “What I love about the pyjama party is that it lets you bond in such a positive way. It’s about being comfortable. There’s no façade and no one gave a damn about how the others were dolled up. The vibe is so much easier at such parties. And well, we all do believe that life is better in ‘jammies’ right? Now, let’s hope we can dress in them to cinemas, dinner outings and even to work.”
