Senior citizen duped of Rs 52 lakh by 'insurance agents' in Mumbai

The Kanjumarg police on Sunday registered a cheating case against two unknown persons who impersonated as insurance settlement agents and duped a senior citizen of Rs 52 lakh.

MUMBAI: The Kanjumarg police on Sunday registered a cheating case against two unknown persons who impersonated as insurance settlement agents and duped a senior citizen of Rs 52 lakh.
Apart from the Kanjurmarg police, the city crime branch too is investigating the case. The two agnecies are on the lookout for the two acused and are trying to trace them based on their call detail reports (CDR).

According to the police, the accused contacted the victim posing as insurance settlement agents and assured him a full and final settlement insurance amount of Rs 1.37 crore within two days.
The victim has told the police that the accused made him sign some documents, which police believe could be forged papers. "They also asked him to transfer Rs 52 lakh through National Electronic Funds Transfer and then siphoned off the money. A case of cheating, forgery and breach of trust has been registered," said an officer.
