NAVI MUMBAI: The MGM College of Engineering and Technology in Kamothe saw massive protests by students on Friday morning after a guard of the Maharashtra Security Force (MSF) was caught masturbating while standing behind a female student in a queue at a photocopy centre on the premises the previous day.
The campus witnessed tense moments during the protests and there was a large police deployment.
The situation eased only about 6 pm after several rounds of negotiations.
Students had caught the accused guard and handed him over to the police after the female student raised an alarm around 3.15 pm on Thursday. Accused Vinod Phad (30), a resident of Kalamboli, is posted as a guard at the RBI headquarters in Mumbai. The police booked Phad, who is married, under Section 354 (outraging modesty of a woman) of the IPC and Section 110 (indecent exposure) of the Maharashtra Police Act.
The accused said he had gone to the college to enquire about the results of his engineering examination.
The young woman had caught hold of the accused and, accompanied by others, dragged him to the college principal’s cabin. The accused was beaten up by the students. Faculty members had to pull him away and push him into a room.
