Chandrapur: The district administration has issued a warning to villages and settlements along Irai river as all seven gates of
Irai dam were opened on Friday afternoon.
The dam is filled up to 98.86% of its capacity. Water is being released from the dam since Thursday following heavy rains. With more water flowing in from catchment areas, authorities have no option but to release the excess water.
Two gates were opened 0.25 metre on Thursday afternoon and one more gate was opened late in the night. However, following good rainfall on Thursday night, authorities opened all seven gates of the dam by 0.50 metre on Friday noon.
Meanwhile, officials claimed there is no flood situation anywhere in the district. However, the Met department has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places in the district on Saturday.
Known as an earthfill and gravity dam on Irai River, it is located next to Chandrapur and Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve.
