MUNGER: The district police on Tuesday arrested 15 tribal women at Ratanpur village under Bariapur police station with jute bags full of Mahua flowers to be used for making liquor. Ever since prohibition was imposed in the state, making liquor from mahua is banned.
Munger SP Ashish Bharti said women with Mahua flowers were on way to their village Umibarsha also under Bariarpur police station for preparing liquor.

On a tip-off that some women with jute bags full of Mahua flowers had got down at Ratanpur railway station and were on their way to Umibarsha village, a special police team with SHOs of three police stations including Nayaram Nagar, Bariarpur and Jamalpur was constituted and a trap was led on their way. The arrested women admitted that this was their traditional business and they have been into brewing liquor from mahua flower for generations as it is their only source of livelihood, said the SP.
Police source said the arrested women are Ratni Devi, Makhiya Devi, Uma Devi, Purni Devi, Sugia Devi, Samri Devi, Sugni Devi, Kavita Devi, Kari Devi, Geeta Devi, Kunti Devi, Suma Devi, Baby Devi, Kadmi Devi and Kamli Devi.
