PATNA: Patna zonal IG Nayyar Hasnain Khan has transferred 200 officers out of Patna district as they had completed their term of eight years in a police range. They were in fact among the 839 officers reshuffled in the Patna police zone on Tuesday.
According to the IG, the reshuffled officers include 11 inspectors, 656 SIs and 172 ASIs. Asked if the transfers were ordered in the backdrop of the violence at the New Police Lines at Lodipur in Patna on November 2, Khan said it was a routine process.

“There were prior instructions from CM Nitish Kumar and the state police HQ to transfer officers posted at a place for long,” the IG said.
“From Patna, one inspector, 176 SIs and 23 ASIs were transferred out of the central range consisting of Patna and Nalanda districts,” Khan said and added a police officer of these ranks could remain posted for a tenure of six years in a district, eight years in a range and ten years in a zone.
Patna is the state’s largest police zone which consists of 11 districts. The IGs of Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur and Darbhanga zones are likely to take similar steps soon.
