PATNA: A joint team of Manipur and Patna police arrested three wanted extremists owing allegiance to two banned outfits in the north-eastern state from Hardinge Road near Patna Junction late on Thursday night.
The arrested extremists were identified as Sapam Kangleipal Meetei alias Chiranglen alias Sarat (37), Wahengbam Thoi Luwang alias John (36) and Kangabam Roshan Singh (27).
Police sources said several cases were lodged against the three with different police stations in Manipur. They were also booked under Section 20 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
Patna SSP Garima Malik said the three owed allegiance to KCP (PWG) and KCP (Maoist), the two banned outfits in north-eastern India.
“Their motives are still known. Preliminary interrogations suggest that the trio had planned to travel to Kolkata from Patna,” she said, adding a team of Manipur police, comprising six to seven officers, had reached Patna on Thursday.
The three were produced before a Patna court on Friday. The court granted five-day transit remand of the trio to Manipur police.
Sources said no suspicious item or weapon was recovered from the possession of the arrested extremists. The sources added that a sub-divisional police officer of Imphal’s East district had written to Patna police about movement of the three extremists in the heart of the city.
