60 stalls put up at Lhasa Market
PATNA: The Tibetan woollen market, popularly known as Lhasa Market, put up in the city is abuzz with shoppers looking for clothes with the onset of the winter season.
Tibetan traders are offering trendy woollens for men, women and kids, including sweaters, jackets, pullovers, blankets and shawls at affordable rates. Like previous years, the market is witnessing good response from people.
The Tibetan Refugees’ Association has been organizing the Lhasa Market in Patna since 1975.
The three-month long winter sale begins in November every year and ends on January 31.
Tibetan traders claimed the demand for winter clothes in the market was increasing. As far as the prices are concerned, jackets are available from Rs 800 to Rs 2,000, while sweaters cost anywhere between Rs 180 and Rs 1,400. The prices of shawls, on the other hand, are from Rs 150 to Rs 1,200, winter tracksuits from Rs 710 to Rs 1,200 and long coats from Rs 2,400 to Rs 2,700.
Tshering Dolkar, a seller said, “The winter season has just set in Patna. We expect our sales to pick up with further dip in temperature. Our business is heavily dependent on weather as people like to use winter clothes they buy in the same season.”
Chitkohra resident Manju Jha, who was at Lhasa Market to buy winter clothes for her children, claimed the prices were fixed, but the quality of clothes was good.
“Right now, we have put up at least 60 stalls in Patna. More stalls will come up soon. Tibetan refugees living in exile in Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal come here to earn a livelihood,” Tibetan Refugees’ Association secretary Chime Tsering said.
Meanwhile, cloth shops on station road, Ashok Rajpath, Sabzibagh, Aneesabad and Raja Bazaar are also flooded with winter apparels. A seller on Fraser Road said, “We have branded winter clothes such as sweaters, pullovers and jackets. The price range starts from Rs 1,500 to Rs 8,000.”
