ASI approval for Rajgir Mahotsav

ASI approval for Rajgir Mahotsav
PATNA: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on Wednesday gave approval to the state government to organise Rajgir Mahotsav at the Quila Maidan in Rajgir.
The three-day festival, which is organised every year by the Nalanda administration and the state tourism department, begins on Saturday.
In its approval letter, the ASI asked the state government to follow certain conditions while organising the festival.
The letter mentioned that the design, location and method of erection of stage would be decided by the organisers in consultation with and approval of the ASI’s Patna circle superintending archaeologist.

The letter said the organisers would not put up any stalls for snacks, food, tea, coffee or drinks at the venue.
It asked the organisers not to use the area for any commercial gain and promotion of any product in any form. Live telecast of the event and commercial use of its recorded version are also not allowed.
Nalanda DM Thiyagarajan SM declined to comment on the ASI’s approval.
The list of ASI’s protected monuments in Rajgir includes all ancient structures and artificial ancient remains situated within half a mile of the two ancient cities known as old and new Rajgriha. Archaeologists have claimed that the remains of the new Rajgriha have been found underneath the Quila Maidan.
