PATNA: Bharat Sanchar Nagar Limited (BSNL) has added 1.7 lakh new subscribers in January and accelerated the pace of providing connectivity through optical fibre, said BSNL Chief General Manager G C Srivastava on Friday. He also dismissed the rumours that the central government’s telecom service provider might be closed.
“BSNL will soon be launching 4G services in Bihar in the 3G spectrum itself.
Equipment for the same have arrived and work will begin really soon,” he said.
Around 40 cities across the state will be benefited with the BSNL’s 4G services. Places like Nawada, Jehanabad and Ara among others will be covered in the first phase, he said.
Answering a question on poor connectivity of the landlines of BSNL, Srivastava said, “The ongoing construction work at several places have severely damaged the landline cables. Our officials are trying their best to repair the damaged cables and restore the services.”
He claimed that BSNL has also partnered with telecom infra providers and cable providers in smaller cities to reach out to huge number of subscribers. Srivastava also claimed that BSNL would soon launch ‘internet telephony’ service as per which the cost of international calls will get reduced by around 80%.
