Patna trader murder: Businessmen seek justice

PATNA: City traders on Thursday raised slogans against the poor law and order situation in the state capital and urged police to arrest the culprits who murdered businessman Jitendra Kumar Gandhi on Tuesday night. Shops in Raja Bazaar, Jagdeo Path and adjoining areas also remained closed as their owners took out a protest march from Ashiana Mor to Sheikhpura, demanding adequate security.
Gandhi’s cousin Pankaj Kumar Sinha, who is also a trader, said, “We want justice...we want the murderers to be arrested as soon as possible. It’s shocking that the murder took place on a busy road. There are no CCTV cameras in the area and the security arrangements are poor.”
The incident took place near a Bihar Military Police camp when 45-year-old Gandhi along with his son Abhiyu Raj (24) was riding a bike on their way back home at Pethia Bazaar in Phulwari Sharif after downing the shutters of their Khadim footwear showroom. The deceased also owned a garment and a confectionery shop in the city.
According to Abhiyu, four masked criminals on two bikes covered the father-son duo from both sides and one of them tried to snatch their bag. Gandhi scolded the criminals after which he was shot in the neck from close range. The murderers are still absconding.
