Covid-19 toll mounts to 29, tally reaches 4,598 in Bihar

Bihar on Friday reported one more death and 146 new Covid-19 cases, taking the toll to 29 and number of positive cases to 4,598 in the state. With the recovery of 2,233 patients and one committing suicide, the state still has 2,335 active cases.

PATNA/BHAGALPUR: Bihar on Friday reported one more death and 146 new Covid-19 cases, taking the toll to 29 and number of positive cases to 4,598 in the state. With the recovery of 2,233 patients and one committing suicide, the state still has 2,335 active cases.
State health department secretary Lokesh Kumar Singh said 91,903 samples were tested so far and 113 people had recovered from the virus in the past 24 hours.
“Altogether 3,311 migrants, who have returned since May 3, tested positive for the virus so far,” he said.
The 29th Covid death was reported from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (JLNMCH). JLNMCH medical superintendent Dr R C Mandal said the deceased suffered from intestinal cancer and had returned from Mumbai recently after undergoing treatment there. He was 60 and belonged to Bankadhar village under Barari police station in Katihar district. He was admitted to JLNMCH on June 2 after testing Covid positive on May 31. Nodal officer of isolation ward at JLNMCH, Dr Hem Shanker Sharma said his condition was already serious when he was brought to the hospital.
“We handed over the body of the deceased to the family members after packing it by strictly following Covid protocol,” Dr Mandal said.
Meanwhile, as per the information shared by health department, Covid cases on Friday were reported from 25 districts, with maximum 13 from Rohtas, followed by 11 each from Katihar and Samastipur, ten each from Bhagalpur and Gaya, eight from Munger, seven cases each from Nawada, Kishanganj, Darbhanga and Sheohar, six cases each from Siwan, Bhojpur, Nalanda and Aurangabad, five cases each from Araria and Khagaria, four from Lakhisarai, three each from Gopalganj, Jehanabad and East Champaran, two each from Purnea and Muzaffarpur and one case each from Banka, Buxar and Sheikhpura.
