Criminals gun down constable during raid in Patna

PATNA: Police constable Mukesh Singh was shot dead by criminals during a raid on NH-31 near Patna Central School under the Kankarbagh police station area in the city around 7pm on Monday.
Police sources said Mukesh, along with another constable, apprehended a criminal when his associates shot him in the back. Mukesh was rushed to a private hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
Police also fired a few rounds but none of the criminals was injured.

Patna SSP Manu Maharaaj said police had conducted a raid to arrest notorious criminal Ujjwal, who is accused in several murder cases. “One criminal was arrested but his identity was yet to be ascertained,” he said.
Patna zonal IG Nayyar Hasnain Khan said police on Monday received information that the criminals, wanted in several cases, had gathered near a private school at Ramkrishna Nagar. “Two police teams were formed to conduct the raid,” Khan said.
“One police team was sent for conducting recce while another was following as a backup. However the backup team got stuck in heavy traffic on the NH and the incident took place,” IG said.
