Garima second woman SSP of Patna
PATNA: Garima Malik, who has been posted as the new Patna SSP, is the second woman IPS officer since independence to hold the position.
Prior to Malik, R Malar Vizhi was posted as Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP). Vizhi, a 1995-batch IPS officer of Bihar cadre, had been Patna SSP from February 18, 2009 to July 27, 2009, according to the records of Patna police.
Presently, she is an IG-rank officer on central deputation.
Garima is a 2006-batch officer from Haryana. She had earlier been posted as SP of rural Patna. She will be the 57th SSP of Patna since August 15, 1947.
There are seven more women IPS officers other than Garima, who have field postings in Bihar as on January 2.
According to the information available on the home department website, Natasha Guria is BMP-2 commandant at Dehri-on-Sone, Harpreet Kaur is Samastipur SP, Meenu Kumari Khagaria SP, Dhurat Saayli Savlaram Araria SP, Swapna G Meshram Banka SP, Nidhi Rani Naugachia SP and Lipi Singh is posted as Barh SDPO in Patna district. Singh, a 2016-batch IPS officer, is the last addition in the list of women IPS officers in Bihar cadre.

A Ransingh Sahu, a 2006-batch officer, is posted as SP of weaker section (CID) at the police headquarters while Kim, a 2008-batch officer is on leave.
Other than these women IPS officers in the field, five others, including Vizhi, are on central deputation.
Presently, there are 15 women IPS officers in Bihar cadre out of the total 201 IPS officers, including those who have been elevated from state police service.
CM Jha, an officer of Indian Police (IP), was the first SSP of Patna after independence. Other than Jha, BB Banerjee, T Nath and A K Ghosh were the only IP officers who had been posted as Patna SSP from the British era police service. Ghosh served as Patna SSP from August 7, 1956 to December 12, 1957.
